At the 2013 Met Ball, actress Rooney Mara, aka 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,' wore a white lace Givenchy gown that was somehow delicate, precious and assertive at once. She went to extremes and was an angelic vamp, pairing her snowy gown with slicked back hair and severe, wine-stained lips.

The deep V in the bodice showed a perfectly minimal amount of cleavage, while the slit showed a hint of thigh. The open back complimented the front and was sexy without being showy.

Meanwhile, the train was femme without being "too much" and the squared-off shoulders added an ever-so-slight masculinity. The details, like the length of the sleeve and the zippers, helped make this an instant classic.

Mara is a true fashion headturner and this dress proves it. She also co-chaired this year's Costume Institute Gala Benefit, which celebrates the 'Punk: Chaos to Couture' exhibition.
