‘American Horror Story’ Season 6’s Meta-Twist Is Not Nearly as Clever as It Thinks
After weeks of enigmatic and intentionally misleading teasers (and one that was little more than a promo for Lady Gaga’s new single), American Horror Story finally revealed its mystery theme for Season 6 with last night’s premiere of My Roanoke Nightmare — or is it My Roanoke Nightmare: A True American Horror Story? Or American Horror Story: Roanoke? Whatever it is, it’s not likely to make up for the whiplash-inducing shifts in quality of the last three seasons, despite creator Ryan Murphy’s promise of a shorter, tighter and less convoluted installment in the anthology series.
First ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Teaser Invites You to Slip Into Something That’s Probably a Lot Less Comfortable
Hey, remember that brief, wacky moment in pop culture history when Fifty Shades of Grey dominated (sorry) the media and resulted in several awkward phone calls with your mom? Yeah? Good. You might also remember that we still have two sequels to look forward to based on E.L. James’ trilogy of erotic novels, and the teaser for the first, Fifty Shades Darker, has arrived along with a new poster that cordially invites you to the premiere of the first full trailer.
‘Gold’ Trailer: Matthew McConaughey Is Bald and Hunting For Gold
Gold is the title of Matthew McConaughey’s new movie — it also happens to be the color of the Oscar statue, which is fitting, as the latest effort from filmmaker Stephen Gaghan (Syriana) looks like it could make the beloved actor an awards season contender once again. The first trailer for the holiday season release has arrived, touting a bald and bold McConaughey as man desperate to strike it rich. Spoiler: He does, but that treasure comes at a cost (insert sad trombone).
James Franco and Nick Jonas Frat It Up in ‘Goat’ Red Band Trailer
If you thought the green band trailer for Goat seemed a little too inoffensive considering the subject matter, then you were, obviously, correct. The red band trailer for the Sundance hit has arrived, and it’s filled with all the profanity and boozing and nudity and cautionary fraternizing you might expect from a film about the perils of hazing. It also proves that it doesn’t take much to convince us that James Franco is incredibly punchable.
‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ Trailer: Kate Beckinsale Is Still Fighting in That Vampire and Lycan War
13 years after the first Underworld movie hit theaters, the vampire and lycan war rages on and yet, somehow, Kate Beckinsale is not exhausted. You’d think that five movies in, Beckinsale’s vampire protagonist might need a quick nap, but nope — someone’s gotta stay in the middle of this battle, which looks to be just as ridiculous and bloody and blue-tinged as ever in the first trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars.
Rumor: Warner Bros. Likes Money, Wants Daniel Radcliffe For ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ Trilogy
Just last month, Warner Bros. filed for a trademark on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the hit stage play (the script was also released in book form) that serves as the eighth installment in J.K. Rowling’s classic series. While that doesn’t necessarily indicate that WB is plotting a new Harry Potter movie, a new rumor suggests that that’s exactly what it means — and they want Daniel Radcliffe to return for not just one, but three films.
‘Shut In’ Trailer: Jacob Tremblay Stops Being Cute, Starts Terrorizing Naomi Watts
Jacob Tremblay has had it with your “aww”s and dumb baby noises. He will not conform to society’s expectations of what an adorable child actor should be. He will not be boxed in by your precious stereotypes. The star of Room is determined to shatter his Cute Kid persona before the adhesive on that label even has a chance to dry, as evidenced by the trailer for Shut In (the anti-Room, if you will), Tremblay’s latest attempt at defying twee norms.
The Avengers Get Super Silly in New ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Gag Reel
Of the many bonus features included in each new Marvel Blu-ray / DVD release, the gag reels are always the most special of the bunch, especially when the whole MCU gang gets together. You won’t be able to purchase Captain America: Civil War for another couple of weeks, but thanks to Marvel, you can watch the hilarious outtakes featuring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the Avengers crew right now.
New HBO NOW Releases: September 2016
Vice Principals Season 1 may be ending next month, but HBO NOW’s September slate also includes the series premiere of the network’s latest comedy offering, High Maintenance. For those interested in catching up with (or revisiting) newer films, HBO’s big September movie additions include The Revenant and Steve Jobs.
‘The Dark Tower’ Teaser Photo Opens the Door to Mid-World
Earlier this week it was revealed that the first footage from The Dark Tower will debut in October during Entertainment Weekly’s Popfest. Until then, Stephen King and the cast of the long-awaited adaptation have been releasing intriguing teaser photos on social media — like the latest image, which features young protagonist Jake Chambers and a quote that fans will immediately recognize.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly Reunite as ‘Holmes and Watson’
No, it’s not a sequel to Step Brothers (but do we really need one, anyway?), but professional funny people Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are reuniting for another new movie, which is still pretty great news. The actors are teaming up for Holmes and Watson, in which they’ll work their hilariously juvenile magic on the iconic literary duo of Sherlock Holmes and his pal, good ol’ Watson.
Watch an ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Stuntman Take a 125-Foot ‘Leap of Faith’
In an interview not long ago, Michael Fassbender promised that the Assassin’s Creed movie would feature some practical stunts, which seemed a bit hard to believe given the increasingly CGI-driven nature of film — not to mention how crazy dangerous it would be to pull off some of the physical tricks depicted in the video game series. But it looks like director Justin Kurzel is delivering on that promise, as evidenced by this awesome behind-the-scenes video, in which a stuntman takes a 125-foot “leap of faith.” 125 feet. That’s beyond impressive.
