Fans of Rock & Roll are mourning the death of famed 70s guitarist Ronnie Montrose. He died this past Saturday (March 3rd, 2012), after a long battle with prostate cancer. Montrose featured a young Sammy Hagar as lead vocalist on his debut album, which included the most familiar tracks from the guitarist: 'Bad Motor Scooter' and 'Rock Candy'.
A Waxahachie, Texas family has recreated the Munsters house in tribute to the 1960s television series. Sandra and Chuck McKee live in the 5,800 square foot house, which was constructed to be an absolute replica of the one featured on TV. The owners are truly big fans of 'The Munsters', and have taken it to a whole new level.
You may have seen the news recently that Peter Frampton recovered the iconic Les Paul guitar he used on the live shows for 'Frampton Comes Alive' after it had been lost for over 30 years. The black Les Paul electric was in rough shape when Frampton got it back. In fact, it had survived a cargo plane crash. But he says that the guitar will be completely restored and he will be documenting the whole process. Frampton posted on his Facebook page:
J.P. 'The Big Bopper' Richardson died in a plane crash in February of 1959, along with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens. It's one of the most famous and tragic accidents in music history, and has come to be known as 'the day the music died'. The photo here shows Richardson's casket just before burial.
It was 43 years ago this Sunday (December 11th, 1968) that the Rolling Stones assembled an all star list of musicians for their 'Rock & Roll Circus at London's Twickenham studios'. The event was planned as a holiday tv special in conjunction with the release of the Stones' 'Beggar's Banquet' album. It was filmed for a two-day period and turned out to be the last performance with Brian Jones in the band.
