‘Captain America 2′ Tie-In Comic Book Reveals First Look
'Captain America 2' will soon hit theaters this April, bringing Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to Washington, D.C. to take on a new shadowy threat. But first, Marvel comics will fill in the blanks on what the Cap has been up to in between the big 'Avengers' battle in NYC and his next run against 'The Winter Soldier.'
Writer Fred Van Lente and artist Tom Grummett were commissioned by Marvel to create a new 'Captain America 2' One-Shot comic book called 'Captain America: Homecoming.' "It’s inspired by the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and takes place between the events of 'The Avengers' and 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier,'" Van Lente told Newsarama in an interview. As for the subject matter, he continued:
In this story, Steve Rogers takes Natasha to the Brooklyn neighborhood where he grew up. A lot has changed there since Steve was a kid in the 1930s, but the walk down memory lane is interrupted when a terrorist strike happens while they’re there. The question of whether it happens because they were there or not is a question readers will have to wait until they read the issue to find out.
Van Lente, whose previous credits include 'Halo' and 'Marvel Universe Iron Man,' also penned the tie-in comic book for 'Captain America: The First Avenger,' a film which cinematically imagined this hometown to which Steve Rogers is now returning. As the writer teases, the villains in this story are elusive and have never appeared in comic book form, though "whether or not you see them again [in 'Captain America 2,' perhaps?] is another question."
'Captain America: Homecoming' will be released in March 2014 ahead of the April 4 release of 'Captain America 2,' officially titled 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.' Until then, check out these first look images from the comics' pages, courtesy of Newsarama.
