I recently found out that my 9 year old boxer has cancer, something that is not that uncommon with boxers.  But, my wife and I are not sure yet where to go from here, and we need a little advice.  Have you ever had to go through this experience with your pet?

A few days ago, my wife noticed some sort of growth that was covering up his bottom jaw, plus he was acting a little weird.  We called the vet and they said to bring him in on Monday.  My wife takes him in, and after examining Tobias (our boxer), they concluded that the growth was cancer.

The vet told us that they needed to do further x-rays to see if the growth was to the bone or not.  If it is, then they would have to do surgery to remove his bottom jaw.  If not, they would still do surgery, but the cancer would grow back.  So, it seems like we are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.

As most pet owners know, those animals become family, and, no matter what, we want to do what is best for them.  But, sometimes figuring out what exactly is best for them is the problem.

So, have you had to deal with an issue like this?  If so, what advice would you give us?
