We all want kids to be as safe as possible when in a car. Car seats are mandatory in the state of Texas but often times the seats are not installed properly. In fact, studies indicate that about 40% are installed incorrectly. That averages out to about 3 of every 4 seats that is not installed correctly. That's a huge number of kids at risk of injury should an accident happen. However, the Texas Department of Transportation is offering a free safety seat checks. Although you can have this done anytime, this week in particular, is Child Passenger Safety Week. The checks are by appointment and are conducted by certified technicians at any of the states 25 district offices.

“The law in Texas requires all children younger than 8-years-old, unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches, to be in a child safety seat whenever they ride in a passenger vehicle,” said John Barton, TxDOT deputy executive director. “If they’re not, the driver will be ticketed or fined. For the safety of your child and for your own peace of mind, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of these free safety seat checks.”
