Chris Hardman, the singer whose career as the performer known as Lil' Chris took off after his appearance on Gene Simmons' reality series Rock School in 2006, has passed away at the age of 24.

The BBC reports that police in Suffolk, England, discovered Hardman's body after being called to the scene by reports that "a man had died suddenly." While a cause of death has yet to be reported, a spokesperson said they are not treating Hardman's passing as suspicious.

His death prompted an outpouring of social media remembrances from friends and peers, including a tweet from Simmons, who told followers "he was loved."

As Lil' Chris, Hardman released his breakout debut single, "Checkin' It Out," after finding fame as a member of the student body at Kirkley High School in Lowestoft, Suffolk, where Simmons hosted the second season of Rock School in 2005-06. Setting out to put together a band with Kirkley students that could potentially open for Judas Priest, Rob Zombie and Anthrax at the end of the season, Simmons put Hardman in the lead vocal spot of the group he ultimately named Hoax U.K.

At the time of his passing, Hardman hadn't released any new music since a Christmas single in 2013, and had publicly contemplated walking away from his pop career, but he'd remained active in other areas; his recent projects included a role in the stage musical Loserville.
