Dallas Cowboys receiver Roy Williams recently proposed to former Miss Texas USA Brooke Daniels in an unusual way - by mail. The result was an incomplete pass and a loss of a $76,000 engagement ring which he wants back.

Williams sent the ring along with a letter asking Brooke to marry him. She declined so Roy expected that she should just send the ring back to him, insured, and that would be the end of the story. Nope.

Six weeks went by and Williams ended up filing an affidavit stating that Ms. Daniels said she lost the ring. And it gets better. Williams filed the loss with his insurance company and they investigated only to find out that the ring was actually in the possession of Daniels' father Michael.

The father in question says that Roy told Brooke he didn't want the ring back and that she could keep it. Uh huh. But he has agreed to do the right thing to avoid a lawsuit, more publicity, and more controversy. He is sending the ring back. End of story. But oh the possibilities.

If it went to court it could get interesting. You see in Texas, and engagement ring is classified as a conditional gift. If the engagement terminates, the ring has to be returned by law. Except in this case, there was never an actual engagement, just a proposal. So the court decision would be up in the air. The lesson here I think, is that all proposals of marriage should have the personal touch. Where's the romance in proposing by mail? No wonder she turned him down. (via FoxSportsSouthwest.com)
