Is It Okay to Use a Gun to Protect Yourself in Public? — Survey of the Day

Earlier this week, George Zimmerman was charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman’s fate may rest on Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law, which in some cases allows a person who feels threatened to use deadly force in public areas without any duty to retreat.
According to a new poll from Reuters/Ipsos of 1,922 adults, 67 percent strongly or somewhat support laws allowing citizens to use deadly force to protect themselves from danger in public places. Twenty-seven percent strongly or somewhat oppose such laws, and seven percent are unsure.
