A video clip of John Lydon scattering a fan’s ashes onstage surfaced just as Public Image Ltd. announced the North American leg of their 40th anniversary tour.

Lydon told the band’s audience in Frome, U.K., on June 27 that it was “one of the nicest, most humblest things” to have been asked by the late man’s sister to perform the memorial act. “This is for Stuart, a fan whose request is his ashes be spread on the PiL stage,” he announced. “Stuart, we love you! In memory! Stuart!”

You can watch the moment below.

The PiL anniversary will be marked with the release of a documentary movie in September. Producers of The Public Image Is Rotten recently unveiled a trailer, featuring some of the band’s celebrity fans discussing what the music has meant to them. Lydon was shown explaining that he decided to form the group as a reaction to what he saw as the failings of the Sex Pistols, which he said hadn’t been “much fun.”

“I wanted to get away from attacking institutions, which was basically the job I allotted for myself when I joined the Pistols, and I just wanted to experiment inside my own head,” Lydon said back in 2015. “You can't change the world if you don't change yourself first. So that was the ambition of it all. Very utopian in many ways, but that's basically how PiL works.”
