I can't tell you how excited I am that Lone Survivor has been made into a movie. I read Marcus Luttrell's book a couple of years ago and found it captivating. It is based on the true story of Marcus's SEAL Team 10 being ambushed on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and his being the only one to come out alive.

You will need to read the book for all the details or you could just wait for the movie to come out. Which by the way will be released nationwide January 10, 2014. The movie, starring Mark Wahlberg as Luttrell, follows the events of 2005 when SEAL Team 10, on a mission known as Operation Redwing, was on the hunt for an Al-Qaeda leader who was close to Bin Laden. Over a 5 day period, 3 of the Team are killed and Marcus is left very injured and presumed dead along with the others.

The rescue team, known as the 'Nightstalkers', who were sent in to get Seal Team 10 out also lost 16 men when their Chinook went down. This was the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

Luttrell amazingly makes his way, mostly crawling, to a small village where the villagers feed, nurture, protect and send for help. Luttrell is eventually rescued and the rest, as they say, is history.

The book is a phenomenal read and I cannot wait for the movie. I had the privilege of seeing Marcus speak at an event and I can tell you he commands your respect, attention and you feel completely in awe of this American Hero. He was a surprise speaker and when his name was announced the crowd completely went nuts and the hair on my arms stood up. He is a hero in every sense of the word and I'm glad men like him are standing watch to protect this country.
