The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the City of Abilene parks and Recreation Dept. continue their 'Neighborhood Fishing' program in Abilene. This event gives parents and kids alike the chance to experience fishing inside the city limits of Abilene.

The 'Neighborhood Fishing' program's 'Trout Derby' is aimed at inner city kids who otherwise would never get the chance to learn about fishing. Michael Homer with TPWD says "If we teach a kid to fish, we'll feed them for a lifetime."

This free event has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 9th, at the creek at Cal Young Park. The fishing will be from 10am-2pm and is absolutely free. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will provide loaner rods and reels.

The TPWD Abilene continues to restock some of our local lakes and creeks inside Abilene city limits. A fishing licenses is required for all participants age 17 or older. Free hot dogs, chips & hot chocolate for all who attend.
