The National Rifle Association, in collaboration with MEDL Mobile, has released a new iOS game titled NRA: Practice Range. The download is free, as the game's main purpose is to provide players with updated news and info on the NRA.

Players have the choice of practicing their shooting skills on an indoor range, outdoor range, or a skeet shoot challenge. Controlling the weapon is either accomplished by moving one's device or selecting the analog feature which gives the gamer a joystick on the lower left hand side of the screen. Under the main menu, the NRA Info tab gives interested parties links to the official NRA website and whether it's gun safety, legislation, or even hunting season information. The information is available by tapping on the various subjects under the NRA Info tab.

The game's release may not complement NRA executive director Wayne LaPierre's own views on videogames. A week after the Newton shootings, LaPierre released a lengthy statement in which he viewed Bulletstorm, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat, and Splatterhouse, as harmful games that are sold and developed by, "a callous, corrupt, and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people."

What do you think? Is it hypocritical of the NRA to release an app on shooting, when they themselves have condemned such activities in video games?
