Sure the police are committed to "protect & serve" their communities, but this is way beyond that.

Vicki Thomas is a police officer in Miami that recently bought groceries for a woman she caught shoplifting because the suspect needed to feed her children.

Here’s how it all happened - Jessica Robles was seen wheeling a buggy with $300 worth of food that she didn’t pay for out of a supermarket. When Thomas confronted her, Robles said her kids were hungry, she had no money and didn't feel she had any other options.

Thomas did a background check and saw Robles had a pretty clean record, so, instead of arresting her, Thomas elected to buy her $100 worth of food:

I made the decision to buy her some groceries because arresting her wasn't going to solve the problem with her children being hungry.”

As for what Officer Thomas did, Robles said,

All I wanted to tell her is thank you from the bottom of my heart."

By the way, Robles did not completely get away with it, she was cited for a misdemeanor and will have to appear in front of a judge.
