After a release plagued with complaints and outrage over misconstrued facts about the game, The War Z has been removed from Steam.

Kotaku reported Steam has yanked The War Z from its store on Wednesday. The decision came after a few days of non-stop complaints about the game from consumers claiming developer Hammerpoint Interactive released the game without many of the advertised features.

Initially the game's description on Steam stated The War Z included player skills, private servers, and maps as large as 400 square-km. After the first salvo of disparaging remarks from players believing they were duped, Hammerpoint altered the write-up, however it appears Valve has had enough.

"From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam," Valve said in a statement released to Kotaku. "We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here."

It will be interesting to see how Hammerpoint reacts, and just what changes are made to The War Z before it's allowed back on Steam.
