Steve Vai will release a new concert album in conjunction with a just-signed reunion deal with Sony Music and Legacy Recordings. Stillness in Motion: Vai Live in L.A. is due on April 7, and will focus on an October 2012 date at Los Angeles' Club Nokia -- the 49th show from Vai's Story of Light world tour.

"To say that this tour was a powerful life experience would be like saying the sun is hot," Vai writes in the liner notes.

Stillness in Motion: Vai Live in L.A. will be available in two-CD and two-DVD configurations. The DVD edition includes a bonus disc that premieres The Space Between the Notes (Tour Mischief), a video diary from the tour, which ballooned to 253 shows between 2012-14. Included are three-and-a-half hours of onstage, offstage and behind-the-scenes footage.

Vai recorded for Sony -- via its Relativity and Epic labels -- during a run of albums between his 1990 major debut, Passion and Warfare, and 2007's orchestral Sound Theories Vol. I and II. Along the way, Vai has also worked with Frank Zappa and David Lee Roth.
