Honest Students Return $41,000 Found in Couch to Elderly Owner

Everyone likes to find loose change in their couch cushions, but three college students dug up a lot more than that.

Roommates in New Paltz, New York found $41,000 in cash in a couch they had bought at a Salvation Army and decided to return the cash to its rightful owner.

The trio stumbled across the loot in April while watching a movie and began counting all the cash, thinking of all the things they could do with the money. Eventually, though, they spotted an envelope with a woman's name on it and discovered it belonged to an old lady who used the couch to hide her life's savings. They tracked her down and made sure she got all her cash back.

Even though college students are notoriously short when it comes to money, one of the roommates said the decision to give back the cash was a no-brainer. "The entitlement very quickly went away with finding that notice with her name on it. Because we didn't earn that money," she said.

Sounds like these students don't need to learn anything about doing the right thing.
