An experimental new treatment for leukemia is showing amazing results in initial trials. The treatment, which uses a single injection, is demonstrating complete cures in early patients. Patients in the trial were in advanced stages of leukemia when given the shot, made from white cells which were genetically altered to activate the body's immune system to fight and kill cancer cells.
Two patients were cured completely and show no signs of the disease after a full year. Another patient showed an improvement of 70 percent. To put it quantitatively, the two patients who were cured saw as much as five pounds of cancerous tissue literally 'melt away'.
