HBO’s secrecy surrounding Game of Thrones Season 6's “Battle of the Bastards” left it unclear if we’d seen any official photos ahead of time, but the penultimate outing’s sneak-peek is here, looming larger than ever. Even Wun-Wun is ready to step on some folk in the epic first photos of Jon and Ramsay’s face-off!

Secrecy has proven something of a sore subject for Game of Thrones Season 6, with HBO attempting to limit the availability of spoilers (even from the press), and oftentimes failing miserably. To wit, the network even amusingly offered its final two Season 6 episode releases without any description whatsoever, but Emmy ballots for “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter” tell a different story.

It’s that time again, as Game of Thrones finally arrives at its ninth episode of the year, with Season 6 promising to deliver a “proper battle” with “Hardhome” director Miguel Sapochnik’s aptly-named “Battle of the Bastards.” The first trailer promises more depth and destruction than ever, but might Jon Snow’s return have been for naught?

Wow. That was one of the most phenomenal and exhilarating episodes of Game of Thrones I’ve seen in a while. We learned so much that I wasn’t expecting to learn so soon this season – the origin of the White Walkers and the Night’s King – and we lost two prominent characters plus another direwolf. But first, Hodor, because who didn’t cry during that reveal and who doesn’t love Hodor to pieces? As many fan theories as I’ve read, I never came across one predicting that turn of events and while it may not sound that climactic on paper, it was pulled off incredibly well in such a heartbreaking and intense sequence.
