The only privately owned version of the Edvard Munch painting 'The Scream' is going on the auction block at Sotheby's.  And the iconic painting is expected to bring $80 million. The famous painting was rendered by Munch from 1893 to 1910. Each of his versions differs in some way.  The version up for auction is a pastel owned by Norwegian businessman Petter Olsen

There are two versions of the painting in museums in Norway.  It has been stolen a couple of times and recovered.  And it's definitely one of the most recognized paintings of all time.  'The Scream' has been used for advertising, drama, emphasis, and horror, through the years.  It will be auctioned at Sotheby's in New York on May 2nd.
