Just when we thought the twists of cancellation season were at an end, NBC is making history. Despite officially declining to order a second season of Timeless this past week, the network has apparently changed its mind and greenlit Season 2 after all.

The fan-favorite time-travel drama had faced cancellation earlier in the week, but is now confirmed to return for a ten-episode Season 2 in summer 2018. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “[Sony TV] had been offering the lion's share of the profits to NBC in exchange for the renewal as SPT believe in the show's creative and that it has a solid chance to be a long-running, family-friendly franchise”

Says showrunner Eric Kripke:

For those unaware, the NBC series followed a group of reluctant time-travelers tasked with stopping an anarchist from re-writing history with his own machine. Abigail Spencer (Rectify), Malcolm Barrett (Better Off Ted) and Matt Lanter (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) serve as leads, with Goran Visnjic as the villainous Flynn.

NBC apparently reversed course when other networks began to show interest in resuscitating the series, so stay tuned for more on Timeless’ future. Nice going, fans!
