St. Patrick's Day brings out the Irish in everybody whether or not you actually are Irish. I am Irish/Scottish and there are traditional foods I enjoy such as corned beef & cabbage and some I do not, like blood puddings. Here are a few traditional foods that you can easily make at home to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

    Corned Beef and Cabbage

This is probably one of the most popular Irish dishes and can be found at most restaurants during March. All you need is a beef brisket (brined and boiled), red potatoes, carrots and cabbage. It's similar to making a crock pot stew.

    Sheppard's Pie

I love Sheppard's Pie and we make it 3 or 4 times a year. It's very simple and filling dish. It's a casserole with ground beef, carrots, peas and mashed potatoes. This is a meal in its self but you can add your favorite sides too.

    Irish Beef Stew

The only difference in a plain stew and Irish stew is adding in a little dark Irish ale, like Guinness. Add in 1 bottle of such beer and give your plain stew a little Irish kick!

    Irish Soda Bread

This bread doesn't have to 'rise' and it also has currants or raisins. It's similar to a big biscuit. It's best when baked in a cast iron skillet too. You can eat it as is or add a little butter and maybe some jelly and eat it as a dessert.

    Colcannon

The Irish love their potatoes and this is another easy potato recipe. Besides potatoes you'll need some scallions, finely shredded cabbage, milk, butter maybe some bacon/ham cubed and all mixed together. It almost looks like mashed potatoes as we know them with a few extras thrown in...again, it's easy and super yummy.
