After a few months of waiting, Nintendo announced plans to release the Virtual Console on Wii U this spring.
Nintendo unleashed a host of important reveals during Wednesday's Nintendo Direct live stream, including the release window for the Wii U Virtual Console. Set to arrive this spring, the Wii U Virtual Console will bring the ability to play NES and SNES titles to the new system. Unfortunately, all the games available on the Wii VC won't be available at the start, as all games are being completely redesigned just for the Wii U.

The good news is, you'll be able to play these games just on the GamePad, and will be able to save back-ups of your progress. Additionally, Nintendo will be adding Gameboy Advance titles for the first time on the Wii U VC. If you happened to already purchase some games on the Wii VC, but also want them for the Wii U, you'll be able to pay a heavily discounted price. NES games will only be $1, while SNES games will be $1.50. Remember, this is only if you already purchased the same game on the Wii's Virtual Console.

Also, in an effort to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Famicom (the NES in the U.S.), Nintendo will be offering certain games at the low price of 30 cents. The promotion will run from now until July, and the special price will be available for just 30 days per game.
