The Wine, Women, and Shoes Benefit will feature wine tasting, a fashion show, designer shopping, a "best in shoe" contest, a "sole man" contest, fun raffles, as well as a seated dinner. Purchase tickets online in advance as this is a limited seating event.
The Alliance for Women and Children at 1350 North 10th Street offers an after-school care program, which my daughter attended. While there she was being taught much more than I was expecting. The whole time I thought she was at the Alliance for after-school care only. Boy, was I wrong.
While at the Alliance After School Care program, my little princess was learning things I thought only grown-ups did. One day she asked me if I knew how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) properly. To which I responded, "yes I think I do." She quickly replied, "you either you do or you don't dad, and you don't want to do it the wrong way because you could hurt someone dad."
I asked her what she knew and she quickly showed me her CPR certification. My little girl had been learning how to offer simple first aid and how to perform CPR and was certified by the local Red Cross. Plus she got Texas State certified as a babysitter while at the AFWC.
So whenever I see the AFWC is having a fundraiser, I'll do what I can to help. Because the funds raised by AFWC provide scholarships to families who cannot afford to pay for after-school care and to ensure that "no child goes home alone."
