It's been a while since the last time I attended the infamous Frontier Texas Belt Sander races. I seem to recall how much fun the races are and how entertaining this entire event is. So when I received the 2022 press release and invitation for this year's races I thought, I have to help get the word out about this incredible fun benefit for our local Frontier Texas Museum (FTM).

The Belt Sander Races are curiously labeled the "Texas State Championship" in Abilene. When you buy a ticket or sponsor a table for this fun fundraiser it comes with a catered barbeque dinner from Sharon's BBQ and frosty beverages.

You will be surprised at who shows up to support and compete. Why you'll see everyone from elected officials, to business owners, to some local celebrities. The craziest part is that a lot of them dress up like they're NASCAR race car drivers or sponsors as you'll see in the photo gallery.

Frontier Texas Executive Director Jeff Salmon said "we are working to make another great event that generates funds makes new friends and increases awareness about our organization. The most important thing is for the museum to raise funds to ensure the organization continues to preserve and promote our Texas history in Abilene."

Here's the best part, if you want to sponsor a team, or need help creating your Sander Racer, Frontier Texas will help. If you need to know what goes into building a racing sander, simply call Jeff Salmon at Frontier Texas at (325) 437-2800 or email info@frontiertexas.com. Get your team ready and create your own Sander Racer.

An individual ticket that includes dinner is only $50 and a table of eight with dinner is only $400

You can also sponsor and or donate seats that allow Abilene police, firefighters, or our Dyess Air Force Base personnel to attend. This benefit is held at the Frontier Texas Museum outdoors and an individual ticket is only $50 and includes your meal. Furthermore, a table of 8 is only $400 and sponsorships go up from there.

A word of advice, gather your friends and get your tickets early as this event will fill up fast due to limited space. Finally, I encourage everyone to support and donate to the  Frontier Texas Museum as the server Abilene and all of Texas. They are keeping our heritage alive and well.
