Big Country Get Ready for a Super Bowl of Great Chili 2024
Yes, it's hot, but it's going to be getting hotter as the Big Country prepares for the Ben Richey Boys' Ranch "42nd Annual Chili Super Bowl and Brisket Cook-Off!" It's time to sit back and enjoy some REAL chili (NO BEANS PLEASE!) while helping out at the Ben Richey Boys' Ranch Chili Superbowk and Brisket Cookoff in the Big Country.
Everyone's help is needed whether is a donation or volunteering at this years event. My lifelong friend and next-door neighbor G.T. Ward informed me that "sponsors, auction items, cook bag swag, bottled water, and volunteers are still desperately needed for this year's cookoff."
I warned GT that I would be sharing his phone number with everyone I know so, here goes - to volunteer, contact GT Ward at 325-669-6200 or call the Ben Richey Boys' Ranch at 325-692-2500. To reach out via email, please send a message to eaglebbq@att.net.
The 42nd Annual Chili Super Bowl and Brisket Cook-Off will occur over Labor Day weekend from August 31st at 9 AM until September 1st at 5 PM in the beautiful Buffalo Gap Old Settlers Camp Grounds (100 Vine Street).
This fun family event promises good food, great entertainment, and some awesome auctions and raffles. Come hungry, wear comfortable shoes, bring the kids, and get to dine on some award-winning chili and brisket.
This year's event will feature chili, brisket, ribs, chicken, beans, and dessert cook-offs. There's even a kids' open event competition. The open event is where you can cook whatever pleases your tastebuds.
There is no charge to get in, however, a donation to the Ben Richey Boys' Ranch would be greatly appreciated. The dance is also free, and a donation would be appreciated there as well.
Gates open at 9 AM on both Saturday and Sunday, and the dance begins at 8:30 on Saturday night. A bowl of chili is only $4. You can take some chili home too, for only $8 a quart, $15 for 2 quarts, or $25 for a gallon. Besides a bowl of chili, you can also enjoy Frito pie, hot dogs, chili dogs, and more.
Vote in the People's Choice competition at .25 cents per vote or five votes for a dollar. All voting tickets can be purchased at the cook-off only. This year's Biggest Chili Pot is being prepared by the Dyess AFB We Care Team, Taylor County EMS, and volunteers.
