My friend, DPS trooper, Sergeant Marc Couch is the Public Information Officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety here in Abilene and throughout West Texas. He just shared with me that there are three major violations they are on the look-out for this Labor Day weekend.

DO NOT get busted for the top three driving violations they're going to be looking for. Furthermore, three separate law enforcement agencies will be working together to look for these lawbreakers, they are of course the Texas DPS Troopers, County Sheriff's Deputies, and City Police Officers. They will all be working in unison to keep everyone safe but most importantly to take out #1-drunk drivers, #2-distracted drivers, and #3-seatbelt violations.

Be aware that extra Troopers,  Sheriff's Deputies, and Police will be patrolling.

Sergeant Couch asked if we could help spread the word that this Labor Day weekend, the Department of Public Safety will be on high alert as they will not be on vacation as they will have extra troopers on the highways and all roads across the Lone Star State.

As the photo gallery shows what all violations Troopers will be looking from intoxicated drivers, those unbuckled, distracted drivers, speeding and everything in between. Mark said that "speeding is a major contributor to the recent fatal car crashes we've been seeing and hearing about right here on West Texas roadways.

While the Tropers are all working to keep us safe, I know that this weekend many of us will be hitting the road, so please be a polite driver and BE ALERT please!

Safety First: DPS Urges Caution for Labor Day Weekend

DPS Director Steven McCraw says,“Safety must always come first. That is especially true when more people are out on the roads, like this Labor Day weekend. Please remember to do your part by paying attention, buckling up and obeying all traffic laws and by all means do not drink and drive, and plan ahead."

As we celebrate this Labor Day weekend, just be aware and keep at the top of your mind to drive safe and polite. Sergeant couch also asked that if you see someone pulled over by the side of the road follow our state's laws to "Move Over and Slow Down."

Remember to drive safe, and have a fabulous, fun Labor Day weekend.
