Another Giant ShareLunker Caught at Lake O.H. Ivie in 2025

A Big Catch at Our Home Lake

For those of us in Abilene, Lake O.H. Ivie has always felt like home. It’s where our radio station hosted the Big Bass Bonanza fishing tournament for years, and it remains one of the best bass fishing lakes in Texas. So, when the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) announced that O.H. Ivie had produced its second Legacy Class ShareLunker of 2025, I knew that this won't be the last.

A Record-Breaking Lunker

This past Saturday morning, Nicholas Guthrie of Livingston landed a massive 13.35-pound largemouth bass, officially designated as ShareLunker #675. This marks the second Legacy Class bass from O.H. Ivie this year, further solidifying its reputation as a top destination for anglers seeking record-setting fish.

Guthrie’s catch pushed the total count of Legacy Class Lunkers for 2025 up to six, with five different lakes contributing so far. O.H. Ivie alone has delivered an incredible 55 Legacy Class bass over the past five seasons, proving its consistency in producing trophy-sized fish.

The Moment of Truth

Guthrie specifically traveled to O.H. Ivie in search of a big bass. After losing one on Friday, he struck gold on Saturday morning, casting a hair jig into 40 feet of water above a river channel.

“The fish slammed it pretty good,” Guthrie said. “It was a race to the surface. Once we netted her and got her in the boat, we booked it back to land to get her weighed.”

Looking at the bass, Guthrie wasn’t sure if it would hit the 13-pound mark, but once it was officially weighed at Elm Creek Marina, his dream became reality.

The ShareLunker Legacy Continues

Guthrie’s catch not only smashed his personal best by eight pounds, but it also introduced him to the ShareLunker program. “I only learned about it in the last 12 months,” he said. “TPWD does an amazing job, and it’s truly the gold standard.”

With O.H. Ivie proving time and again to be a top bass lake, I can’t help but dream of bringing back our Big Bass Bonanza Fishing Tournament. As 2025 continues, we’re eager to see where the next monster bass will be caught. Could it be from O.H. Ivie once again? One thing’s for sure, this lake isn’t done making history.
