Fredericksburg may have a population of just 10,530 (according to the 2010 census), but it has the energy and excitement of a much larger city, think Houston meets the Texas State Fair. While it’s only about eighty miles west of Austin, the town feels a world away, offering a blissful sense of seclusion and laid-back charm. Furthermore, the Fredericksburg area is known as the Peach Capital of Texas, all thanks to Benjamin Lester Enderle, who was regarded as the "Father of the Hill Country Peach Industry." A Town Shaped by German Immigrants
Fredericksburg was founded by Commissioner General Baron Otfried Hans von Meusebach of the “Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas.” Baron von Meusebach later renounced his noble title and was known in Texas as John O. Meusebach, hence the naming of Barons Creek in his honor. The town’s original purpose was to support working-class Germans with education, economic growth, and political freedom, roots that still influence Fredericksburg’s culture today.
