I’m Doing Dry January Again in 2026 — Here’s Why I Keep Coming Back
This is officially year three of me doing Dry January here in Texas, and every single time I say the same thing by mid-month: why don’t I do this more often? No booze for 31 days sounds dramatic… until you realize how good your body feels when it’s not recovering from the holidays.
Dry January isn’t about swearing off alcohol forever. It’s about hitting reset, recalibrating, and seeing what happens when you give your body a break after December does what December always does. Of course, it is also an opportunity for someone to tackle their own permanent sobriety, which I completely support as well.

What Happens When You Take a Month Off Alcohol
Here’s the short version from someone who’s been there:
- Sleep improves (like, real sleep — not “passed out on the couch” sleep)
- Energy goes way up, especially in the afternoons
- Mental clarity returns, and the brain fog packs its bags
- Workouts or even just walking feel easier, and mornings hurt less
- You realize how much drinking is just a habit
Every year, I feel lighter, sharper, and way more dialed in by the end of the month. No magic pills. Just fewer empty calories and better choices. It’s really pretty darn cool. It’s like a total reset, and my body is saying, “Thanks, bro, I needed that".
Dry January Isn’t a Detox — It’s a Gut Check
This month forces you to ask a simple question: Am I drinking because I want to… or because it’s just what I do? That awareness alone is worth the 31 days.
How I Make Dry January Not Suck
One thing that does help is the NA (non-alcoholic) beers available to me. So, if I just really want the taste of beer, I’ll crack one of those bad boys open. Otherwise, I stick to tea, coffee, and water…and lots of it. And, you know what? I still have plenty of fun.
You Are Not Punishing Yourself With Dry January
It really isn’t about punishment. It’s perspective. Three years in, I still feel great every time — and that’s reason enough to keep doing it. Join us this month as we cruise through Dry January on The Weekend Buzz, uhhh, buzzless this month.
