Human trafficking in Texas continues to be a struggle as more and more innocent people fall victim to this heinous crime.

Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month with this Saturday being the National Day for the cause. During this time, we celebrate the efforts being made by local officials, survivor advocates, businesses, and citizens across the globe to raise awareness for human trafficking.

This Saturday, Texans are being asked to wear blue to show support for the work that is done to raise awareness in hopes of ending human trafficking.

Because Abilene is close to larger cities and has a major highway with I-20 running through, our city is seeing a vast increase in cases with several recent reports of human trafficking. To help alleviate this, a local organization called Beyond Trafficking has stepped up.

Beyond Trafficking's mission is to "protect survivors so that they can break the cycle of bondage".

I recently caught up with Jocelyn, Stephanie, and Jamaica of Beyond Trafficking, and we talked about the sad truth of human trafficking, an upcoming gala, how you can help our community and more.

Beyond Trafficking Interview

I want to thank these three ladies for coming in to discuss the human trafficking issue in Abilene. There is a real problem that I don't think most people even know about in our little community.

If you want to know more about Beyond Trafficking, or how you can help, check them out on their Facebook page or website.
