
Texas Thunderstorms Lead To Lost Aerostat Balloon’s Unexpected Journey Across The State
A lost weather balloon in South Padre Island Texas was found over 600 miles away in Hunt County after severe storms swept the state.
Severe thunderstorms recently rocked Texas, destroying buildings and leaving people without power. During the storms, a radar surveillance blimp called a tethered aerostat system was caught in the massive winds, ripped from its tether, and took a little impromptu joyride.

The balloon is used by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) who lost contact with it shortly after it was ripped from its tether.
Caught On Video
The balloon was captured on video and posted on X as you can see the balloon just swirled around in the Texas wind like no care in the world.
Balloon Found
According to WFAA, Quinlan Texas Fire and Rescue found the rogue balloon some 600 miles away in Hunt County Texas, 30 miles east of Dallas. Wonder if it stopped for some famous Texas BBQ?
