I know I'm not the only one who thinks so but to me, dogs are just the coolest. This is one Texan who is a true dog lover. But, sadly there are many dogs right here in Abilene who are without owners and homes. Local organizations are doing something to help with this. Coldwell Banker of Abilene is set to host the Homes for Dogs adoption event to benefit the Abilene Animal Shelter.

The Home for Dogs event dates back to at least 2014. Since then (as of 2020) there have been over 22,000 dogs adopted throughout the Coldwell Banker organization as a direct result of this event.

Dog trainers will be on hand during the event on October 1st to provide tips on how to train your dog. The Abilene Police Department K-9 Unit will arrive at 1:00 PM and there will be a chance to win a $100 gift card to Pam's Pets.

The Abilene Animal Shelter was built in the 1950s as a "dog pound" and has had minimal updates since then. It's the goal of the shelter to provide a clean, sanitary place out of the weather and wholesome meals. They also strive to reunite animals with their owners. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. That's why adoption events like Homes for Dogs are so important. Donations are also graciously accepted during the event.

Yes indeed, we love our dogs here in Texas but sometimes pups can get a little curious. Keep scrolling to meet Nugget and his adventure with a porcupine.
