Exposed: Here’s Why Texans Shouldn’t Trust Google Reviews
Texans! Just like anything else, it's *Buyer Beware* even with reviews.
Reviews
Do you read reviews before you purchase something or go somewhere? I'll admit to checking on some of the reviews for stuff I mail order, but that's about it. I have found that people are much more inclined to complain about something than praise it, so I general don't mess with it at all.
One Example
I haven't really paid attention to any of the reviews of our Haunted House in Lubbock. I was, in fact, pretty surprised that we were reviewed so well, because we've put *zero* effort to soliciting any opinions. After all, how do you "review" a haunted house? First off, it's going to be a different experience each night, and based on each persons life experience, it's going to be very different for each individual. Also, are you rating the scariness, the lines, the hosts that welcome you, the tickets ladies, or what? There's just far too much going on to really read too much into reviews.
Another Business Targeted
This brings me to the reason for this post. I know a lot of businesses would be hurt by a post like this. In fact, a friends business got a one star review since they had to make some adjustments due to egg prices. My problem is a little deeper even than that. My business was given a one-star review because I wrote that Texas Mexican food is probably better than Wisconsin Mexican food, on a post like this one, on a site that has nothing to do with my side-hustle. That's right, this clown gave a one-star review on the haunted house, for something I wrote on a radio website.
Google Is Unresponsive
Yes, I complained about this review for being "off-topic", but apparently nothing is being done about it, and were it not for my friend recently getting targeted like this, I probably would have forgot about it. It's all so crazy considering Google had to pull the reviews for "The Gulf Of America" because they didn't like being treated this way. It's just a great reminder, that you should like a little further into reviews and the people doing the reviews before you take them at their word.
