Texas Death Row: Weirdest And Wildest Last Meal Requests

I'm sure you've thought of it- if you had one last meal on earth, what would you pick? Probably something elaborate and huge- and that reminded you of better times.

I think I'd go with shrimp, cheese grits, greens, cornbread with plenty of butter, and Blue Bell ice cream. And one Al Pastor taco with a corn cup. And plenty of Dr. Pepper. Why yes, I did grow up in Texas, how did you know?

It is a very rare thing indeed to pick your final meal, as many of us will never know our exact time of death until... exactly that time.

However, up until September 2011*, when the practice was abolished, Texas death row inmates were given the choice of a last meal. So if you were considering landing on Death Row for that privilege, you should think again.

*last meal requests were eliminated after a particularly huge request went uneaten, but more on that later.

Many Texas prisoners requested meals that make perfect sense, rich meals like ribeyes, fried chicken, tacos, and other favorites.

Meanwhile, others requested bizarre foods, weird combinations, or even the inedible.

What do death row inmates eat for their last meal now? Well, the same thing every other prisoner gets that day. Nothing more and nothing less, which seems a little more appropriate for a condemned person. Why celebrate their execution like its a birthday party?
