Day 2 of The Ride for Change is in the books and what an awe-inspiring day it was.

I had a blast in Lubbock, for the first leg of The Ride for Change, so on to Amarillo to meet some amazing people, hear some great stories, and eat some delicious food.

On my way to Amarillo, I was met by Braden, Shannon, Danny, and Charlie, from 101.9 The Bull, 96.9 KISS FM, Thunder 98.7, and Mix 94.1 to escort me in to town. We hooked up in Happy Texas (yes, that's a real town) and rode our way into Amarillo and directly to Shi Lee's BBQ and Soul Food Cafe.

I've been looking forward to this day for a long time. Growing up in the south, I grew up on soul food and the grub at Shi Lee's did not disappoint. I had the fried porkchop, collard greens, red beans and dirty rice, and cornbread. Needless to say, I'll be visiting Shi Lee's often and so should you. It is #bellyapproved...and then some!

However, the food wasn't the real star of the show. That honor goes to the owner, Tremaine Brown. This incredible man personifies the hashtag #beagoodhuman. During the pandemic, he has given out over 75,000 free meals to those in need. He also gave out 1,100 backpacks filled with school supplies as well as lunches to students who needed it the most.

He did it all with a smile. To paraphrase my new hero, Mr. Brown stated that doing what's right is not a game of tug and war. You don't do it for the returned blessings, rather you do it to be a good human, while setting the perfect example for his baby daughter. He went on to say that if it comes from the heart, then the return blessings with hit you over the head like a mountain.

He was a truly humble, and caring, man who strives to do all he can for his community. Actually, he only spent a short amount of time with us as he was preparing for an upcoming weekend event aimed to help keep Amarillo clean.

It was truly an honor to spend a few valuable moments with this man.

From there, Shannon and Braden were my tour guides as we visited the famed Cadillac Ranch, The Big Texan Steak Ranch (you know, the place with the 72 ounce steak), and Hodgetown Ballpark - the home of the San Diego Padres minor league club, the Sod Poodles.

Cadillac Ranch was really cool, yet a bit anti-climactic. While the row of buried Cadillacs was incredibly beautiful, I was expecting a bit more. However, I'm glad I checked it out and encourage everyone to visit this place at least once. While there, Shannon and Braden found a few cans of spray paint with paint still in the can. Drawing on her previous tagging experience, Shannon painted a little RFC (Ride for Change) logo on one of the cars.

The Big Texan Steak Ranch, well, stuck out like a sore thumb - but not in a bad way. Along the highway pops up a massive, bright yellow saloon-looking place surrounded by old west style buildings that were actually hotel rooms. We ventured inside and immediately it felt like a shoot out was about to happen. I'm talking one of those "high noon" type of shoot outs. This place is rad. It's a step back into the wild west, but with electricity. They even had one of their 72 ounce steaks on display so you can see what your stomach is in for, if you decided to attempt to eat that bad boy.

Next up was a trip downtown to Hodgetown Ballpark, which is home to the Amarillo Sod Poodles, a minor league affiliate of the San Diego Padres. As we looked at the beautiful ballpark, from the pro shop, Braden pulled a few strings and got us a tour of the stadium. From the field to players clubhouse, this ballpark is state of the art and I can't wait to visit Amarillo again to watch the team play.

We wrapped up the evening chowing down on some delicious Mexican food at Bracero's Mexican Bar and Grill, which is located on the historic Sixth street, otherwise known as Route 66. The food and company were the best way to wrap up an amazing day in Amarillo.

So, after 2 days and 300 +/- miles, we have now raised $1,220 on our GoFundMe page as well as an additional $300 in cash and check donations.

Next up is a 2 in 1 day, as we start the day off in Lawton with our friends at Z94, KLAW, My 107.3, and Diamondback Harley-Davidson. From there, we'll travel about an hour south while we stop off at Red River Harley-Davidson, in Wichita Falls, with Johnny, Striker, and the rest of the Buzz Crew.

Just 2 days in and this has been an incredibly rewarding ride, not only because of the generous donations, but also because of the the amazing stories that are shared with me by some of the finest people in this great state.
