4 Ways to Celebrate St. Patricks Day
If you’re “celebrating” St. Patrick’s day by simply donning your favorite green t-shirt, you’re doing it wrong. Do it right this year: parade through the streets, pack your bags for Dublin, get pelted by the contents of the grocery store’s produce section, or even run a marathon.
Pack your bags for Dublin
Is there any more authentic locale to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than in the heart of Ireland, home of Jameson Irish Whiskey and Guinness beer? If you can’t make it all the way to Dublin on your own dime, head to Jameson Whiskey's Facebook page to tour the Old Jameson Distillery or to Guinness's official site for a detailed history of the brew.
Parade around
New Orleans is historically the largest entry port for Irish immigrants in the U.S. South, so you won’t have problem hitting block parties and parades in celebrating of St. Patty’s. But make sure you pack a change of clothes—or chicken stock: New Orleans Saint Patrick's Day parade-goers are known to get festive by throwing onions, carrots, cabbages, potatoes, and other ingredients for making an Irish stew.
Paint the town green
Prefer to stay local? Enough green-tinged beer and whiskey and even your own neighborhood can feel like a parade. Grab a few friends and paint the town green—though, please, not literally. Hold your liquor or go home.
Work up a sweat
Well, someone needs to make the rest of us feel bad about our drink-fests—why not you? “Fun” runs and walks (even marathons!) are held all over the country on St. Patrick’s Day. Grab a few buddies and work up a sweat at one. Post-run, hit a pub in search of a great Irish beer.
