When it comes to good food, I think that's something we can all get behind. I mean, really good dishes can either make it or break it for me. Especially when trying new things. It has to be prepared right. Where you try these foods is just as important as the food itself.

When you're in Texas, it comes with the territory. There are just some foods that must be eaten. True native Texans can appreciate that statement. I know in Texas, barbeque is king. I think almost everybody can agree with that. However, I uncovered some foods that are all Texas but on the unique side of Texas. Read along and discover a few of my favorites.

Rattlesnake

Just coat it with a breading and lightly pan fry it, you better believe it. Tasty. It really does taste a lot like chicken. Check out the whole process of preparing the snake along with this good recipe.

I'm sorry. You just can't go without this one. It's a Texas staple. So much so that families from all over the state have their own recipes and methods. This was definitely a regular at our dinner table growing up.

Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos

This has been a favorite of this native Texan for a long, long time. In fact, bacon-wrapped anything is a popular deal in Texas. Try these stuffed with cream cheese. Viola. Amazing.

Chips and Salsa

I think this could be in the running as the official snack of Texas. It's everywhere. In restaurants, at ballgames, and at tailgate parties. You just can not go wrong with chips and good salsa. The keyword is good. Queso gets an honorable mention here. Love my queso. Here's one of my favorite recipes for homemade salsa.

Bread Pudding

It doesn't get much more southern than bread pudding. My great-grandmother would wash it down with a cold glass of buttermilk. I sure don't go that far but bread pudding is tops. A local Abilene favorite is the bread pudding at Perini Ranch Steakhouse.

I know a couple of the above may conjure up a little plate fright. But, when prepared and done the right way, thousands of Texans can't be wrong. Food is a mighty good thing and to me, it just doesn't get much better than the amazing foods you'll find in Texas.
