Chico The Chihuahua Survives Owl Attack

Dateline Crystal Lake, Illinois.  Chico the chihuahua is lucky to be alive.  The four pound chihuahua was attacked by a great horned owl while being taken for a walk by its owner, George Kalomiris.

George says the pup was probably saved by the jacket he was wearing.  He said the dog whimpered and didn't want to continue on the walk.  He pulled on the leash and at that moment the owl swooped down and attempted to carry the dog away.

The predator couldn't get a good grip due to Chico's sturdy jacket, but managed to drag the little dog along the ground for several feet before the owner yelled at the bird and it let go.

Chico suffered one puncture wound from a talon and a couple of abrasions due to being drug along the ground.  Otherwise he's o.k., except for the traumatic experience.

Kalomiris says Chico now refuses to go outdoors at night.  I don't blame him!  Poor little guy.  There are pictures of Chico on the Sun Times website. (via Chicago Sun Times)
