The Best Places to Go Swimming in Abilene
Abilene is very fortunate to have some great swimming pools. Here's a list of awesome pools for you to cool off in, during the dog days of summer.
Rose Park Adventure Cove
The Rose Park Adventure Cove is open Sunday and Monday from 1pm - 7pm
and Tuesday - Saturday from 11am - 7pm. Admission is free for kids 2 & under, $4 for kids under 48” tall, $6 for children over 48” tall and $7 for adults age 18 and up.
The aquatic center features awesome slides. One is the 'Big Green Monster', while the second slide is called 'Big Blue'. The pool includes a kiddie pool, a lazy river and a beach-like pool, called 'Stingray Bay'.
The Rose Park Adventure Cove has a full service concession stand and no outside food or drinks are allowed into the Adventure Cove. The Rose Park Adventure Cove will close for the season on Sunday, September 1st.

Nelson, Scarborough and Stevenson Splash Pads
All splash pads are opened seven days a week and operate sun-up to sun-down hours through October 28th. The Splash Pads are absolutely free and children must not be left unattended.

Abilene State Park Pool
The Abilene State Park pool is open from Saturday May 26th Memorial Day Weekend, until Sunday, September 1st. It's the oldest pool in the Big Country, operating since 1934.
The State Park pool is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am - 7pm, with a pool break from 3pm - 4pm daily. Pool admission is in addition to the park entrance fee. Cost to get in is $2 for persons 13 and over plus park entrance or $1 children 12 and under plus park entrance fee.
During the regular season, the pool routinely reaches maximum capacity on weekends. Once the maximum capacity is reached, the pool will not allow any more swimmers in. Park visitors, including campers, are not guaranteed access to the swimming pool. The pool is available for rental after normal business hours. Fees for private pool use will vary, contact the park for more information.

Sunfish Swimming Hole
The Sunfish Swimming Hole & Snowcones has closed permanently. The most recent owners sold it and informed me that Dollar General purchased it and will build a store on that very location in the near future.
Abilene Swim Club
The Abilene Swim Club is a "private members only" pool. Non-members can swim but must be accompanied by a member. Call for pool membership availability.
The Swim Club pool is the only pool with a high dive in Abilene now, this eight foot high diving board has lots of takers climbing the ladder. It also has a great kids slide and an awesome tree covered picnic area.

The Dive Spot
The Lytle Shores Swim Club aka The Dive Spot is under new ownership. Hours are Monday - Friday from 1pm - 3pm. Admission is only $4 per person and children age 2 and under get in free with a paid adult. The Lytle Shores swim club also offers water aerobics, scuba lessons as well as swim lessons for kids and adults alike.
The pool will be open through Labor Day Weekend. The Swim Club offers a kiddie-pool, sand volleyball court, tennis court, basketball goal and a jungle gym with swings.

The YMCA Indoor Pools
The YMCA has what it takes to run a pool, a great staff and awesome facilities. The indoor pools are great during cold/freezing weather. However, during 100 degree days, the ambient room temperature at the pool was just as hot as outside.
The YMCA pool have open swim sessions beginning at 5:30am and continues off and on throughout the day until 8:45pm daily. Check the YMCA's schedule as the times change on a daily basis.
