It has taken over 25 years to do it, but the Candian Broadcast Standards Council, their equivalent of our FCC, has banned the Dire Straits Song 'Money For Nothing' from the airwaves up there in the Great White North.

It seems they've decided the song is offensive to gay men.  Really?  And how many thousands of spins has it received in 26 years?

The lyric lines in question do indeed mention a quite derogatory term for a gay man, but they're obviously being used tongue-in-cheek.  The sarcastic reference about the little 'f**got' with the earring and the makeup' is the one causing the uproar.

In protest, one Canadian radio station played the song nonstop and unedited for a solid hour.  K97 indicated they were not afraid of repercussions due to the ban, and noted that they've never had a complaint in the 25 years they've been playing it.

I think sometimes we definitely take the PC thing a bit too far.  We're even censoring Mark Twain after over 100 years of publication.
