Do You Know What An Angel Shot Is? It Could Save You
It all started as a campaign in 2016. Ask for Angela. Angela isn't real, but a fictional character used to raise awareness and prevent sexual assaults. When at a bar or in a club scene you can simply go to the staff and "ask for Angela" if you feel any of the following.
- Am I on a date that is not working out?
- Is my date not who they said they were online or on their profile?
- Am I not in a safe situation?
- Does it just not feel right?

According to a blog posted up by binwise, the idea quickly gained popularity on social media and was taken even further by a bartender named Benjamin Smith. He unveiled 3 types of angel shots that one could order or ask for at the bar.
Depending on which shot is ordered the restaurant or bar will recognize the meaning and know what to do. The 3 shots are:
- Angel Shot with lime or twist: this means to call the police, there could be an emergency
- Angel Shot on ice, with ice, or on the rocks: this would mean for the staff to call a taxi or uber, etc.
- Angel Shot neat or straight up: ordering this shot would mean the guest wants an escort to their car for safety's sake.
The news video below from abc4 in Utah goes into more detail on this safety campaign.
Restaurants and bars from all around have jumped on board. It's free and easy to implement. The main thing is being safe.
Speaking of keeping you safe, law enforcement is on the lookout for violations this fall. Keep scrolling to see which ones they're looking for so you can be prepared.
