The surviving members of the Doors, along with producer Bruce Botnick, are preparing a deluxe edition of the band's album 'L.A. Woman' for release later this year. The double disc set will include rare outtakes of songs from the album, along with unreleased original songs. One of the rarities is said to be a version of the Barrett Strong Motown classic 'Money (That's What I Want)'.

Doors original producer Bruce Botnick told Uncut magazine in a recent interview that the Doors' master analog tapes have been extremely well cared for. He says they are in a temperature and humidity controlled vault in Hollywood, 'refrigerated and protected by halon gas' to preserve the fragile and aging masters. Botnick was surprised at listening to the masters for 'L.A. Woman', in that he had forgotten the band did 7 to 10 takes of some of the songs. Some of those previously unheard versions will appear on the new deluxe version of the album.

The Doors have stated in numerous interviews that the recording sessions for 'L.A. Woman' were especially sober and relaxed. Jim Morrison moved to Paris in April of 1971 after recording was complete, and died there later that year in August. The new edition even includes studio chatter among the band and production team, so it will put fans literally in the studio with the Doors as they work on their final studio album with Jim Morrison. No firm release date has been set, but they do expect to have the deluxe version in stores before the end of the year.
