Today is Good Friday, the beginning of the Easter weekend.

The religious significance to Christians goes without saying as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, and the promise of eternal life.

As for the secular celebration, we take for granted all of the Easter candy, Easter egg hunts, egg coloring contests, beautiful Easter lilies, and of course the Easter Sunday meal with family.

In Armenia, they're taking steps to avoid an Easter egg shortage! Armenia is BIG on Easter. Armenians are expected to consume over 12 million eggs this weekend. And decorated eggs are a staple on Armenian tables.

Because the country is isolated and impoverished, government officials there are taking real steps to avoid a shortage of Easter eggs. They have banned the export of eggs and have arranged to buy 3.5 million eggs from Ukraine to make sure there are enough to meet the Easter demand.

An official at the Armenian Ministry Of Agriculture said, 'There should be no shortage of eggs at Easter. We have taken steps to ensure this.'

Here's wishing you and your family a very happy Easter. Take time to reflect on its meaning, and time to be thankful. Many things we tend to take for granted, like Easter eggs, can be a serious matter to people somewhere else.   I know that I am thankful for so many blessings this Easter, the biggest of those being family and friends.
