There's been a lot of publicity about the new electric cars rolling into showrooms later this year. The new Chevy Volt is generating a lot of buzz, as is Nissan's new electric vehicle, The Leaf.

But if you look at some of the models proudly displayed at last week's Chicago auto show, you quickly realize that we are still addicted to muscle.

Chevrolet showed off the brand new Camaro ZL1, which boasts 550 horsepower and is touted as the most technologically developed Camaro ever built. Dodge brand general manager Ralph Gilles bent over and kissed the hood of the new Dodge Charger SRT-8, which has 465 screaming horses under the hood.

Ford displayed their new Mustang GT 500, with 500 horsepower waiting to rip up the asphalt.

Granted these muscle cars comprise more of a niche than a mainstream category. A lot more Ford customers opt for the Mustang with the 6-cylinder engine, which still generates a respectable 300+ horsepower along with 30 highway miles per gallon.
