As it turns out, Texas is a stomping ground for many famous people. Many successful folks have been born and bred in the Lone Star State. From actors to athletes, there is some serious talent that comes from Texas. It's also the final resting place for many of these famous people.
As a native Texan myself, I wanted to see some of the famous names who have been buried in our great state. With the help of Find a Grave, I came upon quite a list - athletes, historical figures, politicians, actors, and more. I even noticed some I had no idea were buried in Texas. Dan Blocker
Best known for his role as Hoss Cartwright in the TV show Bonanza.
Don Meredith
For nine seasons Don Meredith played with the Dallas Cowboys. He did it all, from professional athlete to broadcaster and actor.
Mac Davis
This popular country singer, songwriter, and actor from Lubbock County is well known throughout Texas.
Mickey Mantle
This Hall of Fame Major League baseballer played 18 seasons for the New York Yankees. He has many accolades to his name.
Selena
This adored Hispanic singer - the "Queen of Grammys" when it comes to Tejano music - was murdered at the age of 23 in Corpus Christi.
Ann B. Davis
You may recognize this face. Ann B. Davis was a television actress famous for her role as Alice on the show The Brady Bunch.
Tom Landry
Perhaps best known for being a Hall of Fame professional football coach for the Dallas Cowboys, Tom Landry also served in World War II.
Buddy Holley
A musician born in Lubbock, Buddy Holley was well known for hits like "Peggy Sue" and "Rave On". He was killed in a plane crash on February 3, 1959, along with Ritchie Valens and disc jockey "The Big Bopper".
Sherman Hemsley
Best known for his role as George Jefferson on the NBC TV show The Jeffersons, Sherman Hemsley also served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
Stevie Ray Vaughan
A blues and rock legend born in Dallas, Stevie Ray Vaughan came from a musical family eventually forming the band Double Trouble.
Of course, no list is definitive. There are many more notable burials in Texas including politicians, historical figures, and more. As with many Texans, famous or not, I plan to be buried in the Lone Star State. There's no other place I'd rather be.
