Art Garfunkel is 70 years old (November 5th).  His pure high voice is instantly identifiable both as a solo artist and in harmony with Paul Simon on so many timeless songs.

It's hard to believe that the recording duo of Simon and Garfunkel actually broke up in 1970.  Their catalog of songs is an indelible part of music, and they recorded all of them over only about a six year span.  The pair got together as schoolmates and first recorded under the name 'Tom & Jerry' starting back in 1957.

After the breakup, Garfunkel scored his first big solo hit in 1973 with  the album 'Angel Clare'.  The album hit reached number 5 on the Billboard charts.  Art had a string of fairly successful albums and songs thereafter with hits such as 'I Only Have Eyes For You', and the Simon and Garfunkel reunion song 'My Little Town' which appeared on Art's album 'Breakaway'. There have been several reunions over the years for live shows and even tours. Art has been sidelined for well over a year due to some serious issues with his vocal chords, but he insists in recent interviews that his voice is recovering and that he's singing again. He continues to hint at shows with Paul Simon at some point in the not too distant future.

Obviously, his lead vocal on 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' with Simon and Garfunkel is the song that he's most famous for.  The album of the same name sold over 8 million copies.

And Artie has collaborated and harmonized with numerous artists through the years, including James Taylor.  Check out their live version of the Everly Brothers song 'Crying In The Rain':  (via wikipedia.com)
