The historic Matera Paper Company building on South First was a total loss in a fire last night (Sunday, February 20th).  Firefighters fought an intense blaze that sent flames high from the roof of the building.  It is a total loss.  Walls were knocked down due to their instability and danger to traffic along South First.  The building was constructed in 1907.

Firefighters were made aware that the building had been occupied recently by transients.  No official cause of the blaze has yet been determined.  Below is an amateur video of the fire from YouTube.  You can see much more here detail at ReporterNews.com:
