Abilene And Big Country Law Enforcement Are Urging Drivers To Be Careful
During this holiday season, Texas drivers are being urged to move over and slow down for tow trucks, law enforcement, emergency medical service, and all other emergency vehicles. The above poster was created and is being promoted by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Abilene Police Department, along with the Taylor County Sherriff's office, and the Texas Department Of Public Safety are all going to be on the lookout for intoxicated and or impaired drivers. So don't drink and drive and stay off your mobile communication devices when you are behind the wheel. The very life you save may well be your own.

Texas Law Requires Drivers To Slow Down At Least 20 MPH Under The Speed Limit
As we all travel throughout Texas, we are urged to slow down or move over for stopped emergency vehicles including tow trucks, police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks. Texas law states that one must slow down to at least 20 miles per hour under the posted speed limit or, if you're able, change lanes when you’re passing a first responder stopped on the side of the road.
This year record numbers of travelers are expected to be on the Texas highways. This means that there's an increased risk of breakdowns. Drivers should pay attention to what’s happening around them and prepare to react quickly.
Sergeant Fred Biddle with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in Abilene, asked that anyone driving anywhere in the Lone Star State this holiday season "drive safe and please obey all the laws."
