Texas Law Requires Drivers To Slow Down At Least 20 MPH Under The Speed Limit

As we all travel throughout Texas, we are urged to slow down or move over for stopped emergency vehicles including tow trucks, police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks. Texas law states that one must slow down to at least 20 miles per hour under the posted speed limit or, if you're able, change lanes when you’re passing a first responder stopped on the side of the road.

This year record numbers of travelers are expected to be on the Texas highways. This means that there's an increased risk of breakdowns. Drivers should pay attention to what’s happening around them and prepare to react quickly.
