What Wild Days Has in Store

Wild Days presented by Whataburger is the Abilene Zoo’s marquee spring break event, a festival of animal fun that brings families up close with some of the zoo’s most fascinating residents.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

Live Interactive Shows

Educational and entertaining animal presentations run throughout the day. These interactive stages allow guests to learn about animal behaviors, natural adaptations, and conservation, often with ambassador animals taking center stage.

Behind-the-Scenes Experiences

New this year, Wild Days includes Backstage Tours and Behind-the-Scenes Experiences where guests can step into animal care areas usually hidden from public view. Participants can discover what goes into the everyday care of giraffes, bongos, reptiles, anteaters, rhinos, and other amazing animals, with keeper talks woven in.

Exclusive Animal Encounters

For those wanting an extra special animal moment, several up-close experiences are available for a small additional fee. These include:

  • Giraffe barn visits
  • Bongo and anteater habitat tours
  • Reptile keeper chats
  • Rhino encounters
  • (Registration recommended as spots are limited.)
  • Attractions and Amenities
  • While attending Wild Days, visitors can enjoy all the regular zoo offerings:
  • Giraffe Feeding Experience
  • Carousel and Safari Express Train rides
  • Gift shop browsing
  • Food vendors with snacks and lunch options

Zoo members find that Wild Days is included with membership, making this event an excellent return on their annual support.

Tickets and Planning Your Visit

The Abilene Zoo is open daily, and Wild Days runs every day of spring break, with zoo gates open during regular hours. Advance online ticket purchase is encouraged. Zoo admission varies by age, and members typically enjoy free or discounted entry to special events such as Wild Days.
